#3 Sanur, Bonsai Cafe
We went to a restaurant on the beach called Bonsai Cafe. It was really pretty, all the tables are outside, on the sand, with lit candles. The meal was yum, I had vegetarian noodles, Ama had salad, and Joni had chicken cashews. I took a pic of them eating :) Finally Ama allowed me to pay (100,000R) for dinner. We then went home and watched a DVD.
#4 Ubud, Rumah Makan
I met a nice guy named Agus who was very friendly and helpful and not at all pushy. Sat with him for a while. He's going to move to Australia in December to open a traditional Balinese massage centre in Hamilton, Victoria, with his Aussie friend John. He does massage and tours (like nearly everyone you meet here).
We exchanged phone numbers and arranged to meet up for dinner. I went back to my bungalow and had a nice hot shower, put on my new clothes, put my hair up in Balinese style with bamboo, and met him out the front. I rode on the back of his scooter up Monkey Forest Road to a place called Rumah Makan/Warung Makan Restorant (I think!).
The scenery at the restaurant was fantastic. Open-air style, overlooking many, many rice terraces. We sat on cushions on the floor of a gazebo type thing. It was really comfortable.
It was a very nice dinner.
The prices were: Large Agua (water) - 5,000 Large Beer - 17,000 Gado-Gado (my vegetarian meal - vegies with satay sauce) - 22,000 Tropical Sasur - 23,000 Banana Fritter - 5,000 Balinese Pancake - 6,000 Comes to 78,000 + 10% govt tax = 85,800
#5 Ubud
Joni drove me back to Ubud after the parade, which was so nice of him! I invited them to have dinner in Ubud with me, Joni chose a nice fancy restaurant. Food was nice - we got so full. Mine sounded interesting on the menu but ended up just being grilled boneless chicken with garlic and coconut. The price for all 3 (inc drinks and desserts) was 170,000.
#6 Kintamani Restaurant
We then had lunch at Kintamani Restaurant which looks out to the volcano/mountains and lake. Very expensive restaurant, it costed 85,000 just for MY LUNCH ONLY! It was buffet style, the meal was cold for us but they "heated" it up after we had already been served which was pretty annoying. I could've fed 6 people for the price of that meal and it was cold, so I was pretty unimpressed and won't be recommending it to anyone.
#7 Kuta, Fajar
I had lunch at a place in-between Popies 1 & 2 - a small restaurant called FAJAR, which is like the "make shift" javanese ones you get in Denpasar.. very cheap looking and very cheap food, but tasty, just not very hot.
#8 Sunset Dinner Cruise
The cruise was definitely worth the money. The dinner was nice, it was a buffet of all sorts of food. I had boiled rice, beans, potatoes, chicken curry, chinese beef, roasted pepper salad, olives, etc. There wasn't any Indonesian dishes available. (?!)
#9 Kuta, Tubes
Went to Tubes, had a drink and some dinner with Nick. Nasi Goreng again!! But only because it was the only Indonesian dish on the menu.
#10 Kuta, Popies Lane I - an Aussie looking place
I had dinner in Popies Lane I - the atmosphere was good, but the Nasi Goreng needed flavour.. so I had to add a heap of hot chilli to pep it up. But it was cheap (about 7,500 - a bit over $1).
#11 Ubud
I had dinner at that grand opening place again, this time I ordered what the owner had recommended the previous night, Thai Green Curry Chicken, served in a coconut (kelapa) shell. It was pretty good, more interesting was the way it was presented. Lisa? who was a sole traveller sitting in a table next to mine, offered to take a pic of me with my weird meal, so you'll get a visual when I get home ;)
